Matt Specialists South Africa
As a child, Matt’s best friend’s designamat.net family came from Ethiopia and his father told him thrilling stories of lion encounters in the Serengeti, sparking a keen interest in Africa at an early age. When he was offered the opportunity to defer his university place and volunteer for a year with an East African charity in Uganda, he jumped at the chance. During his time there, he taught English and History at a local primary school in Kayenje village and volunteered at the hospital. He also climbed all three Virunga volcanoes, trekked to see the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and visited all of Uganda’s great national parks.

Following his time in Uganda, Matt volunteered with Modisa Wildlife Project in Botswana. He took part in game captures and a vulture-nesting study and was left blown away by the unadulterated wilderness of Botswana. He has since returned to Botswana to volunteer and work on friends’ game farms, as well as to travel extensively around the country.
